Description

The Assistant Dean (AD) for DEI reports to & is administratively responsible to the Associate Dean for Inclusivity, Global Health & Community Engagement.  The  AD is accountable for developing, implementing, & evaluating SON DEI strategies supporting staff, students, & faculty in meeting the SON Strategic Plan Objectives. The AD is also a member of the faculty & maintains academic faculty obligations in teaching, scholarship, & service. 



Requirements

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a DEI change agent, consultant, thought-leader, influencer, & subject matter expert DEI
  • Collaborate to enhance DEI efforts related to excellence in teaching, research, practice, service, & leadership.
  • Facilitate application of DEI principles to SON recruiting, hiring, developing, retaining, engaging, & motivating students, staff, & faculty. 
  • Identify emerging DEI developments & trends applicable to SON goals & commitments.
  • Build awareness of & role model DEI principles & practices in interaction with all stakeholders.
  • Design, implement & assess DEI awareness activities that align with the SON & university missions.
  • Provide innovative opportunities to foster allyship & belongingness.
  • Engage proactively with DEI leaders across the UTMB enterprise to align DEI work & build strategic partnerships. 
  • Centralize DEI communications, events, opportunities, & resources for optimum access & use.
  • Produce reports, infographics, monographs, & other communication tools in conjunction with leadership & communications.
  • Liaise with RISE Center to align opportunities for DEI funding.
  • Serve as a member of related committees, councils, & taskforces as appropriate.
  • Execute all accountabilities with compassion, integrity, respect, inclusiveness, & a lifelong learning perspective.
  • Maintains academic faculty obligations in teaching, scholarship, & service associated with rank.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates a record of respectful, inclusive, & collaborative interaction with all people & groups.
  • Approaches accountabilities & partnerships from a strengths-based framework.
  • Demonstrates significant agility & comfort with navigating ambiguity.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, problem-solving, & leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in aligning DEI strategies & goals within a complex academic health system.
  • Skilled in coalition building. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Commitment to full equity & inclusion is required.
  • Doctoral preparation in nursing or related field with two-five years of successful DEI leadership preferred.
  • Significant experience in teaching & leading in higher education; prefer health sciences education background
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Texas.
